Champaign-Ford Regional Office of Education moving to Champaign

From the News Gazette:

Located in Rantoul since 1979, the Champaign-Ford Regional Office of Education offices will be moving to Champaign, probably in March.

The move became necessary after the Rantoul City Schools board — as a cost-saving move — closed the Myna Thompson School building, where the regional office had been located. It would have cost RCS an estimated $9 million to bring Myna Thompson up to health and life safety standards.

“We looked at several properties in Rantoul. We just couldn’t find anything that kind of met our needs when we were in the looking phase.”

Rantoul City Schools Superintendent Michelle Ramage said no decision has been made on what to do with the property.

The new regional office will be located in north Champaign in a building just off Olympian Drive, west of Prospect Avenue, at 3355 Big Pine Trail. The building, which is owned by TAG Along Associates, will be renovated to meet the needs of the regional office.

Quinlan said she believes the new location “will be very convenient” for people coming from both counties.
