Cancer Prevention Study

The American Cancer Society is looking for participants between the ages of 30 and 65, who have never been diagnosed with cancer (not including basal or squamous cell skin cancer) and are willing to make a long-term commitment to the study (completing follow-up surveys every couple years via mail/email for the 20-30 years).

Participation is easy. Your initial enrollment requires two steps and will involve going to the website www.cps3illinois.org to schedule an enrollment time. You will complete your first, most comprehensive survey, which will ask you questions regarding medications you are taking, family history of cancer, lifestyle and other behaviors. It will take approximately 45 minutes to complete.

At your onsite appointment, you will sign an informed consent form, complete a brief survey, provide a waist circumference measurement and a small blood sample by a certified, trained phlebotomist. Your appointment should last approximately 15-20 minutes.

The study is looking to enroll at least 300 people in the Champaign-Urbana area. If you are interested in enrolling, please visit www.cps3illinois.org or call 1-888-604-5888. For all of the details on what it takes to enroll, please review this informational flyer.

The study is also looking for volunteers to help on the day of enrollment. Volunteer duties include greeting participants, assisting with paperwork and making sure the participants proceed through their appointment smoothly.

Volunteers are needed on July 9, 2013 at Carle-Urbana on Windsor (1818 East Windsor Road) from 1:00 pm – 6:30 pm. All volunteers will receive a tshirt.

Please contact Jennifer Large at the American Cancer Society at 217-356-4861 or Jennifer.Large@cancer.org to sign up to volunteer, or if you have any additional questions on CPS-3.
